FOOD & NUTRACEUTICAL
FOOD-GRADE IRISH SEAWEED, SPECIFIED TO THE BINOMIAL
Twelve species, hand-harvested on Ireland's Atlantic coast and dried below 40°C. Every batch ships with its own certificate of analysis — so your specification, your label and your compliance file all say the same thing.
WHAT YOU CAN ORDER
Four FORMATS, ONE SUPPLY CHAIN
01
Whole leaf
Graded whole dried blades. For retail packing, infusions, and applications where the seaweed stays visible in the finished product.
02
Cut & kibbled
Screened cut sizes for soups, broths, ready meals and tea blends. Cut grade specified per order.
03
Flake
For seasoning blends, snack toppings and table condiments, where colour and flake integrity matter.
04
Milled powder
For capsules, tablets, bars, extrusion and dry blends. Mesh specified to your dosing equipment.
WHAT YOU CAN ORDER
FOUR WE RECOMMEND STARTING WITH
DULSE
Palmaria palmata
The flavour species. Savoury and smoky when toasted, and the highest protein fraction in our range* — the usual first choice for seasoning and snack work.
ATLANTIC WAKAME
Alaria esculenta
Holds its bite after rehydration, so it survives cooking in ready meals and soups. Notably high in iron, manganese and copper*.
SUGAR KELP
Saccharina latissima
Natural umami and the highest total polysaccharide content in our range*. A brown kelp, so discuss iodine before fixing a daily dose.
CARRAGEEN
Chondrus crispus
Irish moss, with a long domestic history as a setting agent. Available bleached or non-bleached — the two behave differently in dairy and dessert systems.
*Indicative, single-harvest data. Full COA available on request — seasonal variation applies.
FIGURES FROM INDEPENDENT LAB ANALYSIS, A SINGLE SEASONAL HARVEST. COMPOSITION VARIES NATURALLY BY SEASON, HARVEST LOCATION, AND GROWING CONDITIONS — INDICATIVE ONLY. CURRENT CERTIFICATES OF ANALYSIS AVAILABLE ON REQUEST.
WHY BELOW 40°C
THE DRYING TEMPERATURE IS THE PRODUCT DECISION
Most commodity seaweed is dried fast and hot because it is cheaper. That choice is made before the material reaches you, and it is not recoverable downstream.
Heat-labile fractions: Drying below 40°C is chosen to protect the polyphenols, pigments and vitamin fraction that high-temperature drying degrades. If your claim rests on any of those, the drying curve is part of your specification.
Colour and flavour: Low-temperature drying holds the colour and the clean marine taste — which matters wherever the seaweed is seen or tasted rather than encapsulated.
Hand-harvested, selectively: Cut by hand above the holdfast so the plant regrows. No dredging, no bycatch, no sediment load — and no mixed-species harvest to sort out afterwards.
Named to the species: Every batch is traced to species and harvest site. Commodity seaweed is routinely sold as a genus, or simply as "seaweed" — which leaves you unable to substantiate a species-specific claim.
IODINE & COMPLIANCE
IODINE IS THE FIRST QUESTION. HERE IS THE HONEST ANSWER.
Brown seaweeds concentrate iodine, and the level moves with species, season and harvest site. That is exactly why a single published figure is no use to a formulator — it cannot be the number you dose against. We test per batch and give you the batch figure, with the harvest date attached.
We will also tell you when a species is wrong for your dosage form. A high-iodine kelp in a daily capsule is a formulation problem, and it is far cheaper to raise at sample stage than at registration.
-
Tested per batch, by species and harvest date — not a textbook range.
-
Arsenic (with inorganic arsenic where relevant), cadmium, lead and mercury, screened per batch.
-
On the same certificate as composition, against your agreed specification.
-
Declared per species and per production line.
-
Consumption-history documentation by species, for EU novel-food assessment.
-
EU Organic certificate and operator number supplied on request.

We will send a sample with its batch certificate — and if a different species would serve the application better, we will say so before you formulate around ours.
